Before we start, here are some disclaimers.
I’m not a CCRC expert
I am not an expert on the retirement living industry so, I cannot guarantee that everything in this guide is accurate and up to date, but I have tried to make it so. Therefore, as President Reagan once said, you should “trust but verify.”
I have no CCRC affiliation
I have no affiliation with any CCRC, CCaH, or the retirement industry in general other than I currently am a resident at Salemtowne Retirement Community in Winston-Salem, NC.
Everything is subject to change
The CCRC industry keeps changing and the individual CCRCs keep changing their procedures, requirements, and fees so those presented in this guide may not be current.
No national standards for CCRCs
There are no national standards or regulations pertaining specifically to the operation of a CCRC or CCaH, so each state has its standards and regulations. Therefore, you should check with your state or the state to which you are considering moving to see what resources they provide about them.
Marketing representatives are salespersons
CCRC and CCaH websites and marketing representatives will tell you everything they want you to know, but not necessarily everything you need to know; it’s just standard marketing procedure. They are trying to sell you their product. The intent is this guide to provide you with ALL you need to know when considering a CCRC.
Consult experts
Before signing a CCRC, CCaH, or any other type of healthcare contract or agreement, consult with your attorney, tax accountant, financial advisor, and your family. This is an IMPORTANT decision and should not be made without careful consideration.
