Enjoy the benefits of living at a CCRC while you wait for a vacancy.
Priority/waiting list
All CCRC's have a priority/waiting list program that potential residents join to prioritize their position on a list for future vacancies in the housing unit they prefer. All CCRCs have a fee for applying to become a resident. The fee may be nominal, such as $100.
For some CCRCs, the fee may be higher, such as $1,000, which allows the use of the CCRC's facilities that are available to residents and may also include some free dining.
The fee for these programs may be applied to the entrance fee when you become a resident.
Off-campus residency program
Some CCRC's go a step further and offer an off-campus residency program. These programs offer benefits such as:
- Priority access to rehabilitation, assisted living, memory care, or skilled nursing just as if you were living on the campus.
- Nursing consultation at the on-campus clinic at no additional charge.
- Support and guidance during a health care crisis, including the arrangement of home care.
- Attendance at any of the monthly activity, entertainment, academic, or recreational programs or events.
- An annual health and wellness assessment.
- Access to the online resident portal.
- A dining plan.
However, these off-campus residency programs cost more. For example, one local CCRC requires a $12,500 entrance fee and $400 monthly fee per resident. Only the entrance fee counts toward your on-campus resident entrance fee. And if you never become an on-campus resident, there is no refund of the entrance fee.
Off-campus residency programs are only useful if you are sure this is the CCRC you will be moving into in the future, you can use all the benefits enough to justify the costs, and you are willing to spend the extra money.
